When Sports Meets Music

Even though millions of consumers use ESPN as their medium to stay informed about their favorite sports, the broadcasting station still wanted fans to use its services further. According to BrandWeek, the popular station recently began marketing one of its Web site's features with an interesting advertising campaign.

ESPN decided to make viewers aware of its fantasy baseball by creating a fictional campaign. The new promotion features TV spots with a performance from an imaginary band called Iron Diamond. The commercials allow the rock and roll group to display their talents by playing the fictional rock opera "Fantasy Baseball is Free."

ESPN.com will support the new TV commercial, where viewers can watch extended versions of the promos and interesting behind the scenes footage. The fusion of sports and music is definitely a creative way to promote sports and should definitely appeal to a broad audience. As more campaigns reach the online arena, marketers will need to continually find a way to stay creative.
